“Don’t fight the feeling, invite the feeling.” —Bruno Mars in 24K magic

This is not just a pop song lyric; it’s also excellent mindfulness advice. (“Put your pinky rings up to the moon”? Less so.)

As I’ve said before, when we feel anxiety or some other unpleasant emotion, we tend to flinch away and resist. Unfortunately, this only makes things worse. The trick is to drop your resistance and let yourself feel whatever you’re feeling. Turn toward your present-moment experience, even when it’s a little uncomfortable. This may be counterintuitive, but it can really take the sting out of anxiety and other difficult emotions.

The easiest way to do this is to tune into what you’re feeling in your body. To help, here’s a short body scan meditation. Enjoy!
